Ti qui to co: The Combinations of Syllables in the Cantares Mexicanos – A Comparison of Sound Reconstructions

The article lists the ideas and concepts of various researchers concerning the role of the combinations of syllables such as ti, tih, tin, to, toh, ton, qui, co, coh and con that can be found at the beginning of the majority of songs compiled in the Cantares Mexicanos, a manuscript from 16th century Mexico. It highlights the history and structure of the text, and discusses the perspectives and categories used by those researchers in their attempts to reconstruct Aztec music.
Este artículo presenta las ideas y conceptos de varios investigadores sobre el papel de las combinaciones de las sílabas ti, tih, tin, to, toh, ton, qui, co, coh y con que se hallan antepuestas a la mayoría de las canciones en los Cantares Mexicanos, un manuscrito del México del siglo XVI. Trata de la historia y estructura del manuscrito y examina las perspectivas adoptadas y categorías usadas por dichos investigadores en sus intentos de reconstruir la música azteca.
