Los artefactos sonoros de Xochicalco

En 2010 se inició un proyecto de investigación sobre los artefactos sonoros y el paisaje sonoro de Xochicalco, Morelos, México. En este trabajo se presentan los primeros resultados de dos áreas del proyecto: primero, el registro organológico de los materiales arqueomusicológicos resguardados en el Laboratorio del Proyecto Xochicalco; y segundo, la comparación organológica con instrumentos musicales de otras culturas mesoamericanas del Clásico y Epiclásico. El material muestra una cultura musical local diversificada que mantuvo estrechas relaciones con el área Maya, la Costa del Golfo y el Occidente de México, pero que también continuó ciertas tradiciones musicales del Centro de México. Así se creó un estilo propio que no se ha encontrado en ninguna otra parte de Mesoamérica.
In 2010 a research project on the sound artefacts and the soundscape of Xochicalco, Morelos, Mexico, was initiated. The first results from two branches of the project are presented here: first, the organological registry of the music-archaeological material preserved in the Laboratory of the Proyecto Xochicalco, and second, the organological comparison with the musical instruments of other Classic and Epiclassic cultures of Mesoamerica. The material indicates a diversified local music culture, which maintained intimate relations with the Maya zone, the Gulf Coast and West Mexico, but which also developed and maintained certain musical traditions specific to Central Mexico. Thus, a particular style not found in any other part of Mesoamerica had been established.
