My paper will have a historiographical approach – and will be very personal. Various standpoints, milestones, beacons will be commented upon. Among the topics are: The concept of music–problems and non-problems, “Music is not part of archaeological research” (reference to CarlAllan Moberg), Vertical versus horizontal research, Music-archaeological positivism, the golden triangle, Critical scrutiny of one’s own research, the art of teasing Denmark, the third mission.
